Troop 1899 began as a dream by Mr Danny Wright. He pursued starting a Boy Scout Troop to give boys in the community the same opportunities that he had when in Scouts. Danny needed a charter member to do so. He presented his dream to the United Steel Workers Local 1899 who gladly accepted and offered their support. Therefore Danny submitted to the Boy Scouts of America a request for troop numbers to be 1899. As you can see from the picture above, Danny's dream became a reality.

Troop 1899 is growing and reaching out for new members all the time. The Boy Scout members learn leadership as they are in charge of the Troop under the supervision of the Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, and other adult leaders. Members are divided into patrols, each having their own scout leaders and scout members that support each other in advancement and schedule the activities for the troop.
.
Each summer we attend 2 weeks of summer camp at a BSA campground where the scouts earn multiple merrit badges that enable them to advance; as well as taking on the responsibilities of camping. These include meal planning, cooking, cleaning up, setting up camp, activity planning, maintaining fresh drinking water. Camp activities include climbing, fishing, swimming, creek walk, mud cave, attending classes for earning merrit badges, group meetings at the camp fire, camp fire stories, meeting fellow scouts from other Troops.
.
Troop 1899 Scouts are planning a 20 mile bike ride that includes a picnic, as well as other activities throughout the year; such as, bowling lock-ins, popcorn sales, serving food and drinks at the USW picnic, swim parties, and other weekend campouts.

Troop 1899 meetings are held on Mondays every 2 weeks. Please come and visit and see what we are about. You will bring in new ideas to us as we work together to become leaders in our community.
